Cox Automotive has chosen Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity, as its primary charity for the coming year and is set to announce a series of events to raise vital funds for the organisation and its battle against homelessness.

Tireless fund-raising in the past two years has seen staff raise more than £100,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which helps fulfil the wishes of children suffering from a critical illness. Money raised has equalled the granting of 40 wishes for children all over Europe.

Cox Automotive’s new charity partner, Shelter, helps people in housing need by providing advice and practical assistance. It campaigns for better investment in housing and for laws and policies to improve the lives of people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Sarnjit Kaur, Cox Automotive’s Chief People Officer, said: “The ongoing cost-of-living crisis has impacted us all in one way or another.

“So many people across Europe are finding themselves in financial difficulty – sometimes this can lead to homelessness. Having a home is a human right. It’s our foundation and it’s where we thrive. Yet, every day, millions of people are being devastated by a housing emergency.

“That’s one of the main reasons why we are now partnering with Shelter. Doing the Right Thing and supporting charities has always been a core part of the Cox culture. After all the great fund-raising work that staff all over the UK have done for Make-A-Wish, I’m sure we will do a fantastic job on behalf of Shelter.

“Everyone at Cox Automotive can feel extremely proud of the £100,000 raised for our previous primary charity; a total that has no doubt made a hugely positive impact on the lives of critically ill children.”

Cox Automotive teams in the UK will be fund-raising for Shelter, while across Europe, staff will be supporting the Red Cross who also provide incredible support to people who are facing or experiencing homelessness.

Michelle Martin, Shelter’s Assistant Director of High Value Partnerships, said: “We are thrilled to announce that Cox Automotive has agreed to partner with Shelter to defend the right to a safe home. Shelter’s corporate partners are vital to helping us end the devasting impact the housing emergency is having on people and communities. We look forward to kicking off our partnership this summer and working together to drive lasting change.”

Fund-raising events for Shelter and Red Cross are due to be announced in the coming months.
